Below is a list of links I utilize in my other life, an 8th grade math teacher.

Check them out, you might find one or two useful.

Kearny School District - where I teach.  On this page you can find a link to my school - Schuyler.

The New Jersey Department of Education  - the Core Curriculum Content Standards for math can be found on this site.

NETS Site - the National Educational Technology Standards for our students.

The National Council for Teachers of Math, Iluminations - a virtual manipulative library with some really cool online activities that I have done with my students.

ed helper - a great site to find worksheets, and all kinds of puzzles and games for math for every level.  There are seasonal sections as well as specific subject matter.  I have created GEPA (Grade Eight Proficiency Assessment) math terms word puzzles.  My students love them.

Inspiration - students can create visual explanations for math concepts on this site.  This link will take you to some examples.

Shodor - another interactive site that reinforces math concepts via virtual activities.

MrNussbaum.com - this site has some really cute math games that can be used as a fun way to apply concepts.

GIS (Geographic Information System) - site where you can get demographic information by zip code.  There are many other uses of this site but one way it can be used for math is to capture and graph the data.

GLOBE Program - this site has global projects.  It is mostly science and geography.  Some of the puzzles and activities are fun.  I linked to and downloaded google earth from here.  It is awesome!

Education world - a great education site.  Here is a link to an area of the site where there is great information about podcasting in the classroom.

teAchnology - a great site for creating rubrics.  You can use some of their templates or create your own.  I usually use one of theirs, copy it to MS Word and edit it there.  Saves alot of time.

Math video clip from United Streaming - here is a video clip about translations for 7th/8th grade math.

Here are some sites that provide grants for education:

Here are some sites with freeware/shareware (free downloads!) for teachers, courtesy of my classmates:

Grant and Freeware site - here is a great site, courtesy of my classmate Garth Ferrante, which has a very comprehensive list of grant and freeware sites - http://hoargard.googlepages.com/myresourcepage3

Search Engine Test Results - one of our assignments for this class was to perform a test on various search engines.  Below is a a chart with my results from this exercise and my thoughts on each search engine.

The hits that were relevant on all sites were basically links to the same websites/lesson plans.  I would rate Google the best.  It did well in all categories.  I use Google all the time so I might be a bit prejudice but it’s quick and I have had much luck with it.

I have used Yahoo and Ask.  I like both of them too and I must say I was impressed by Devilfinder and Clusty.  I had never heard of them.  The Devilfinder sites were almost all the same as Google.  I found two other good ones that I hadn’t seen on the first page of Google.  I liked the left panel of Clusty how they grouped or clustered them with other categories.

The format of Kartoo and Snap were different and I liked that Snap showed a preview because I could tell if I had visited that site before.  The bad thing was it took a while to open the sites and there were many that weren’t relative.  Kartoo was cute the way it was set up and it did give you a view and description when you hovered over the sites listed.  It might get a bit overwhelming though, I’d have to get used to the format.
